Figured I’d continue on with my Almost Christmas posts. Here’s another one for you to enjoy:
Because of my crazy work schedule at the hospital due to the Christmas festivities, I got home pretty late. After fooling around a bit on my computer, watching TV and taking the Roxcii for a walk, I crawled into bed around 1:30. My cat Jewel decided to join me. I was about to drift off when my cat hopped off my bed and went to the door. I watched her peek her head out into the hallway and suddenly she jerked her head back inside the door. At that momment I saw this large shadow slip past my room.

Thinking it was odd that this shadow had not turned on any lights to navigate their way upstairs, and I was half asleep and not thinking clearly, my mind automatically went to the worst case scenario: it had to be a burglar.

I immediately started screaming at the top of my lungs and I ran out my room yelling:
“Get out of our house…we don’t have anything for you!!!”
I had totally planned to push this shadow down the steps and somehow tie he or she up. The shadow started screaming and ran to my mother’s room. I went after the shadow unarmed yet determined to protect my mother as I frantically searched for the light. The cat completely freaked out by all the screaming, ran down the stairs and my dog bursts out my sister’s room ready to attack.

When I turned on the light,I realized that it was just my sister sneaking upstairs. She hadn’t turned on any lights cause she was trying hard not to wake anyone up. Oops.
When she heard me screaming and saw me run out of my room, she thought someone was in my room and ran to my mom’s room for help. When we realized what was going on, we just collapsed on the floor from laughter for about 20 minutes. My mom sighed and returned to her room, completely annoyed by her silly daughters.
I know we drove my mother crazy but I know that she loved us. I am so grateful for the memories I have of her.
